Matekite/Traditional healer and Co-author of Award winning book, Collaborative and Indigenous Mental Health Therapy - Tataihono: Stories of Maori healing in Psychiatry, Wiremu Niania discusses in depth the vital role, he believes, Wairuatanga (Spirituality) plays in recovery in this interactive workshop.
Whatever your professional focus, the wellness of Wairua (Spirit) is the key element that strengthens and enhances every area - mind, body and whanau (family) and underpins every indigenous society. Gaining a traditional healers view of Wairuatanga, the role of Mauri (life force), Tapu (sacredness), Mana (identity) and other key concepts of traditional maori world view. Learn how to assess Mauri in your practise by spending a day with Wiremu.
This wananga / workshop is designed for multiple practitioners and clinicians, for indigenous and non-indigenous mental health workers in different contexts, for clinical leaders, trainees and researchers, counsellors, church leaders and anyone concerned with the mental health and wellbeing of those in their communities.
These sessions move beyond academic information to application of traditional Maori principles. You will learn how to bring these tangible powerful concepts into your professional practice.
Optional extra - have a personal one on one session with Wiremu - cultural supervision or personal wairua session.
