Matekite/Tohunga - Wiremu Niania - Co-author of Award winning book, Collaborative and Indigenous Mental Health Therapy - Tataihono: Stories of Maori healing in Psychiatry, and his wife, Lesley Niania, (Mahi Wairua lead Trainer) facilitate this interactive workshop / wananga.

While we welcome everyone to attend, this wananga / workshop is designed for multiple practitioners and clinicians, social workers and health professionals for all ethnicities and beliefs, for clinical leaders, trainees and researchers, counsellors, church leaders, students and anyone concerned with the mental health and wellbeing of those in their communities.

These sessions move beyond academic information to application of te ao maori principals. You will learn how to bring these tangible powerful concepts into your professional practice.

9.30am SESSION 1:  Historical background / Tohunga Suppression Act and its impact

10.45am SESSION 2:  WAIRUA in Te Whare Tapa Wha and Nga Kete Wananga - what are they?  What relevance are they in today's modern mainstream health?

12.00pm LUNCH - (Aroha mai - lunch is not provided, however you are welcome to bring your own, or break and go for a kai off site).

12.45pm SESSION 3:  Intergenerational trauma and how it can be addressed through Nga Kete Wananga

2.00pm Afternoon Tea - provided

2.30pm FINAL SESSION:  The restoration of Tapu process

Who is this wananga for?

This wananga is designed for professionals of all ethnicities and beliefs concerned with the health and wellbeing of their whanau and / or those in their communities seeking wellness utilising a Te Ao Maori framework based on the ancient teachings of Te Whare Wananga.
